Where we are called to act, it is above all the edges that literally disappear into thin air of a multifaceted and syncopated urban fabric, which even seems to be uninterested in the extraordinary historical heritage just a few steps away and today in conditions of apparent abandonment. It is very complicated to identify the urban “borders” of the area of interest and the overall perceptive effect is that of a disproportionate, desert-like, solitary, insecure, qualityless, in some ways repellent void.

The project does not design a square, but an unprecedented and surprising artificial landscape. Not an enclosed (and concluded) space but a place deliberately modeled on the absence of borders, on osmotic exchange relationships, which elects the free view and depth of field as crucial perceptive tools of a new all-encompassing metropolitan experience. If it has to be about landscape, then we can only talk about panoramas, perspectives, horizons. Of thought even before the eyes.

All the realities in play will be interconnected and therefore visitable thanks to a multilevel matrix of routes designed according to the fluid and organic lines of the walk. Areas hitherto denied to the public will be opened to visitors, thus exploiting the natural protection of the places by people, at any time of the day, as a deterrent to episodes of illegality and a tool for control, regulation and care of public affairs.
The routes wind episodically, tracing circular surfaces on the ground which are locally specialized in the installation of functions, green areas and equipment which will be discussed in more detail below. Occasionally the paths detach themselves from the ground and take the form of protected “flying” walkways to connect the articulated pre-existing elevations.

The aerial paths also peacefully colonize the view onto Via Dalmazia, here articulated in sculptural elements intended to redesign a soft and irresistible contemporary urban front right at the foot of the cylindrical tower of the castle. A surprising business card, and certainly difficult to forget, for those who enter the city!
